Eğitim-Bir-Sen and Cyprus Turkish Educators Union (KIBTES) organized a workshop on “Union Organization in Education”. The workshop was held with the participation of KIBTES President Himmet Turgut and the accompanying delegation. At the opening of the workshop, Ali Yalçın, President of Eğitim-Bir-Sen and Memur-Sen, said that they stand with the oppressed and the victim, regardless of their colour, language and belief, and that they are against those who do injustice no matter who they come from.

Stating that they want to develop bilateral relations with its sister union KIBTES, Yalçın said, “We hope that the areas of integration between our unions will expand. We are aware of the difficulties faced by young KIBTES and the struggle of its managers. We have had this experience in the past. I want to express that we are always open to sharing experience and I want you to know that our possibilities are your possibilities. We care about sharing our 30 years of struggle for rights, labor and freedom and our union experience with you. 30 years of know-how support means an important advantage for every institution.”

KIBTES President Himmet Turgut, noting that they adopted the values and principles of Eğitim-Bir-Sen and shared common goals, said, “We see Eğitim-Bir-Sen as a model and not only limit the unionism to protecting the economic rights of the employees, but strive to do much more. In this context, we are encouraged to feel the support of Eğitim-Bir-Sen and Memur-Sen.”

After the speeches, the sessions started. In the first session of the workshop Nevzat Öylek made a presentation on “Function of Trade Unions as NGOs”, Hıdır Yıldırım’s presentation was titled “Principles That Lead the Unionist to Success” and Eğitim-Bir-Sen and Memur-Sen president Sıdıka Aydın presentation was “The Role of Women in Unionism”. In the second session, Gazi Doğan made a presentation titled "Trade Unionism in the World and International Trade Union Organizations" and KIBTES Board Member Özlem Yasemin Karakuzu made a presentation titled "Teachers' Views on Unions in TRNC".
